Communication systems lab at Department of Future Technologies, University of Turku is looking for a
Project researcher / Doctoral candidate (security and safety engineering of autonomous road vehicles).
The position is fixed-term and starts upon mutual agreement as soon as possible and ends 30.4.2021. The position is full-time, but can be agreed part-time upon mutual agreement.
The position is part of the ECSEL funded Programmable Systems for Intelligence in Automobiles (PRYSTINE) project. It involves 60 prominent industry players, universities, and research institutes all over Europe. The overall aim of the project is developing fail-operational urban surround perception (FUSION) to enable safe automated driving in urban and rural environments.
Our contribution to the project include requirements specification, system-level design, system integration, and validation through live testing of a vehicle equipped with the fail-operational autonomous controller developed in the project. The qualification requirements of the positions are stated in the University of Turku Rules of Procedure. A person selected for the posts of Project researcher and Doctoral candidate is required to have a higher university degree. A Doctoral candidate must also have an accepted research plan, and in addition, when acquiring his or her degree or otherwise, he or she is required to have demonstrated the ability and motivation to undertake postgraduate studies and the capacity to complete a doctoral degree in accordance with the research plan.
Successful candidates must possess an applicable Master of Science degree, completed with very good grades.

The salary is determined in accordance with the university salary system for teaching and research personnel. For Project researchers and Doctoral candidates the salary will be on levels 2-4 on the job demands chart, where the task specific salary component is 2 005,71 – 2 500,06 euros per month. In addition, a personal work performance component (a maximum of 46,3% of the task specific salary component) will be paid.
A six month trial period applies to the position.
