Department of Sociology is looking for an

University Assistant without a PhD for the specialization Sociological Theory and History of Ideas

(40 hours a week; fixed-term employment for the period of 4 years; position to be filled as of October 1st 2018 )

Your duties

  • Close collaboration with the Professor for Sociological Theory and the History of Ideas (Moebius)
  • Participation in the main area of research »Theory and History of Sociology« in the form of collaborative publications, and the development and realization of research projects
  • Conception and implementation of a dissertation in the fields of history of sociology in the german-speaking countries and/or sociological theory in the fields of pragmatism, poststructuralism and/or theory of practices
  • Participation in conferences, publications in research journals and/or other media of knowledge transfer
  • Independent teaching of courses at the department of sociology; mainly in the area of sociological theory and the history of sociology
  • Participation in exams and supervision of final theses; participation in the department’s organization, administration, and evaluation
  • Further education regarding teaching and research skills

Your profile

  • Degree in sociology (or in a comparable subject) with very good grades
  • Very good knowledge of the history of sociology in German-speaking countries and/or sociological theory
  • Excellent (scientific) English and German (spoken and written)
  • Knowledge in dealing with new media (desirable)
  • Interest in interdisciplinary research (desirable)
  • Relevant lecture, publication and teaching experience (desirable)
  • Ability for independent research, creativity and originality
  • Interest and pleasure in both teaching and research
  • Willingness to learn or to continue learning
  • Excellent organisational, communication and social skills
  • Ability to work in a team and resistance to stress
  • Selfinitiative

Our offer

Classification

Salary scheme of the Universitäten-KV (University Collective Agreement): B1

Minimum salary

The minimum salary as stated in the collective agreement and according to the classification scheme is EUR 2794.60 gross/month. This minimum salary may be higher due to previous employment periods eligible for inclusion and other earnings and remunerations.
