Post doctoral research position in feedback control of microorganisms (fermentation)

The Bio-process engineering group in NTNU seeks a hard-working, creative Post doctoral scientist for a new large European project. The applicant will apply real-time feedback control and optimization methods in fermentation of bacteria. We will not only measure and control the traditional fermentation conditions (e.g. temperature, O2, feeding) but we will use novel and exciting tools to acquire measurements from the cell factories themselves: We will measure real time expression rate and cellular growth values, and will control those to achieve optimal production of rare antimicrobial peptides.

The PostDoc position is for 2 years, with possibility to extend another year, starting August 2018. The position is financed by the EU. 

The candidate will also be responsible for several doctoral students and will run our new high technology real-time feedback fermentation laboratory (including mass-spec, HPLC, multiplexer NUMERA system and flow cytometer).

Information about the department

The research activity at the Department is extensive, and is organized in research groups. These are Biorefinery and fibre technology, Catalysis, Colloid and polymer chemistry, Environmental Engineering and reactor technology and Process systems engineering.

The Candidate should hold a PhD in Chemical Engineering, Control Engineering or Biotechnology, with documented experience in fermentation of bacteria (Journal articles).

Additionally, he/she should have good modeling and control skills and be proficient in Matlab and process and/or electronics feedback control systems.

The position requires spoken and written fluency in the English language. It will be considered an advantage to also master spoken and written Norwegian.

We prefer to start the position during June to August 2018, but we will consider other options from excellent candidates.

Terms of employment

The appointment of the postdoctoral fellowship will be made according to Norwegian guidelines for universities and university colleges and to the general regulations regarding university employees.

NTNU’s personnel policy objective is that the staff must reflect the composition of the population to the greatest possible extent.

The position as postdoctoral fellowship is remunerated according to the Norwegian State salary scale. There is a 2% deduction for superannuation contribution.
