The Department of Music and Art is part of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. The department offers a large number of courses, both at the programme level and as separate courses. The department consists of five main areas - Art History and Visual Studies, Arts, Music, Musicology, Theatre Studies. In total, the department offers nearly 200 courses, either as freestanding electives or within the education programmes - The Cultural Leadership programme, the Music and Sound Design programme, the Music Production programme and the Teacher Training Programme. Within the department we work to develop education and research on both artistic and scientific bases.

The work includes teaching, administration and research as described below.
Education planning, teaching and supervision in the field of popular music, but also to some extent in other areas within the field of musicology.
Teaching within the department's different and varied programmes, e.g., the Cultural Leadership programme, the Music Production programme, and the Subject Teacher education programme in Music Course
Development in collaboration with the department's other two main areas, Music and Music Education.
Course responsibility, course administration, course development and examination at the undergraduate and graduate level.
The development of distancebased education.
Other general administrative tasks may occur.
Planning and education development are primarily carried out in teams. The teaching is primarily conducted during daytime hours, but may also occur on evenings and weekends. Some of the teaching may be distance-based. Teaching is conducted in Swedish and English. The position also involves active participation in the department's internal and external work, independent research and competence development within the subject, and actively monitoring the development of the subject area itself, as well as other social developments that are important for the teacher's work at the university.
Eligible candidates for the position of lecturer in Musicology must have
A Ph.D. degree in Musicology.
Proven scientific skills relevant to the subject matter of the position and the duties that the position involves.
Proven pedagogical skills relevant to the subject matter of the position and the duties that the position involves.
Undergone a university-level pedagogical education or have acquired equivalent knowledge in some other manner.
In accordance with Linnaeus University's appointment procedure, pedagogical proficiency is considered to include the planning, implementation and evaluation of teaching as well as supervision and examination.

The Teacher Training programme is managed and organised by the Board of Teacher Education. The department offers courses in the Preschool Teacher programme, the Undergraduate Education programme and the Subject Teacher programme (specialisation in Art or Music).
