The Construction Engineering Research Group is an emerging research entity of the Engineering Faculty of Hasselt University, with a major interest on structures made of concrete and other brittle materials on one side and on road engineering on the other side. In the framework of its development, the Research Group has the possibility to offer a PhD grant starting from the academic year 2018-2019.
Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAV) are no more a matter of "if" but "when". This will however require evolutions of the design of roads, both at the geometric design level and at the pavement design level. In this PhD project, the focus will be put on the potential consequences of CAVs deployment on road pavement conditions, considering different deployment scenarios. This will be achieved mainly by resorting to relevant simulation models using data from controlled experiments.
