The chair of Geosensors and Engineering Geodesy at the Institute of Geodesy and Photogrammetry of ETH Zürich deals with geodetic metrology, geomonitoring, geodetic data processing and calibration in research and teaching. The research focus is on areal monitoring using terrestrial laser scanning and terrestrial radar interferometry. PhD or Postdoc position in TLS Calibration (100%)
Your research focus will be on the development of algorithms for the calibration of terrestrial laser scanners. You will work methodically, carry out numerical simulations and perform experimental investigations. The position is limited to 4 years. Should you not yet have a PhD, you will have the opportunity to write a doctoral thesis within this research area.
In addition to this project, you will be involved to a minor degree in teaching or student supervision and in other projects carried out at the chair. This will provide the opportunity for you to get in touch with various cooperation partners inside and outside ETH Zürich including companies, agencies and research institutions. We are looking for candidates with a very good university degree (MSc or PhD) in the area of Geodesy, Geomatics, Photogrammetry, Physics or Mathematics who have a solid background and working knowledge in parameter estimation and statistics and are familiar with programming in Matlab or Python. Ideally, you have practical experience with terrestrial laser scanning. You enjoy both working in a team and working on your own, you are reliable and interested in both fundamental and applied research. Strong skills in spoken and written English are mandatory, German skills (at level B2 or better) would be a further asset.
