The Department of Applied Physics at the Aalto University’s School of Science and Aalto Nanofab are looking for
STAFF or SENIOR SCIENTIST IN EXPERIMENTAL NANOTECHNOLOGY
to permanent employment at the Otaniemi campus.
The Department of Applied Physics (http://physics.aalto.fi) is one of the biggest departments of Aalto University. The department carries out an ambitious research programme in basic and applied physics as well as in many areas with direct links to industry and interesting technological development. The focus areas of the department’s research are condensed matter and materials physics, quantum physics, low temperature physics, nano optics, and energy sciences. The department hosts two large-scale research infrastructures, Nanomicroscopy Centre and Low Temperature Laboratory, which are both part of the national OtaNano research facility. Aalto Nanofab is responsible for maintaining and developing the cleanroom facilities at Micronova Center for Micro and Nanotechnology, also part of OtaNano research facility. This position is closely linked to the abovementioned research infrastructures and to the Academy of Finland Centre of Excellence in Quantum Technology.
The Staff/Senior Scientist will be responsible for supporting the research of the experimental physics research groups in the abovementioned research infrastructures, especially in maintenance and development tasks related to advanced nanolithography, particularly electron beam lithography andvacuum deposition systems. In addition, the employment involves maintenance and repair of the dilution cryostats including vacuum and gas handling systems at Micronova. The selected candidate will also provide user support (both training and development of special experimental setups) for the related research infrastructure. The Staff/Senior Scientist will also participate through a supporting role in research and doctoral education. He/she will also support the research groups in the procurement, development and maintenance of laboratory equipment, as well as other tasks in the teaching and research of experimental physics at the department.

Salary, working time and place of work
The salary is based on the salary system of Finnish universities. The applicants may also present their own salary expectations. In addition to salary, the contract includes Aalto University occupational healthcare.
The annual total working time of research and teaching staff at Aalto University is 1624 hours.
